We Bought a Zoo : a Film Worth Seeing
64
It's been a long time since I watched a movie that not only captivated me but had me walking away wanting to watch it again. That pretty much sums up how I felt as I walked away from the theater after watching "We Bought a Zoo".
Directed by Cameron Crowe and starring Matt Damon, Benjamin Mee wrote the book while Cameron Crowe and Aline Brosh McKenna wrote the screenplay. They all did a fine job too. The story is well written, engaging, and has meaning and purpose.
For a couple of hours I actually got sucked into someone else's reality, watched how they dealt with a recent change in their family and I learned something from it. This is an excellent film.
It is honest and emotional. Matt Damon plays an excellent role, he is passionate and real like I've never seen him before; he deserves an award for his performance. He brought a character to life that isn't a super hero or a macho guy, but a real man, boss, husband, brother and dad who is dealing with real life ... in an unconventional way.
The rest of the cast was well chosen and all play great parts. The casting director on this film should be commended; the characters are all believable and felt right together; like they had been working and living together for a lifetime.

Based on a True Story
The story itself is great. It's original, captivating, has a lot of twists and turns, is based on a true story; and as it turns out, it's a great true story.
The film is made with passion about a man with passion and his struggle to survive heartbreak, while keeping his family intact. It is very well done.
It takes place during a time in the life of a family when big, huge life changes happen. The life choices that are made are interesting and outside the box and come with a fair share of conflict and challenges.
This film is definitely worth watching. Great script, acting, directing and cinematography, It's the kind of film that has impact and can make you change the way you think about things, even if only for a moment. It's a film that will go into my permanent library as the story won't get old, even with the passing of time.
Hats off to the production team, the writers and the studio who backed this film; well played. I loved this film for so many elements, it's one that I can actually say I appreciate that it was made.
This is a must watch film with something for everyone in it. Wait for it to come out on DVD if you want, but put it on your list; definitely appropriate to watch with pretty much everyone.

I love animals so was drawn to this film, but of course wondered if it was worth seeing - the fact that you saw it once and then wanted to see it again has made me decide - that is what I will see this coming weekend - B.
